A VOLLEY GOOD SHOW, MR JACK
Rangers Kilmarnock

IT was scored at the same end of Ibrox and hit just as sweetly.
Ryan Jack (inset) may have taken a touch first but his wonder winner against Kilmarnock evoked memories of two famous Old Firm strikes.
The first came 33 years ago when the late Ray Wilkins thundered a volley past Ian Andrews in a 5-1 derby win. A decade later it was Jonas Thern who netted a peach of a shot which flew beyond a helpless Jonathan Gould.
The 28-year-old’s goal was worthy of winning any game and came seven minutes before the end of a frustrating first half.
Two former Light Blues title-winners were on duty for the club’s TV channel and both Alex Rae and Neil Mccann marvelled at Jack’s technique for the strike.
Mccann said: “It was a quite special goal. You can see how far out he was, because he was almost protecting from the counter attack but he sensed that it could drop.
When it bounced back to him it was a sensational cushioned first touch to set himself up. It sat up lovely, a great little height.
“It’s difficult when you’re playing against a team sitting behind the ball. Patience was the key word but I don’t think anyone was expecting Ryan Jack to come up with that, probably even him. It was a brilliant finish and loosened the
jar.”
Rangers are now just nine games from an Invincible league campaign having equalled the longest unbeaten top flight league run in a season for 28 years.
Rae, who won the league with Gers in 2005, said: “It’s been an unbelievable campaign so far. The win was the most important but to go 29 games unbeaten and keep 22 clean sheets is unbelievable.”
And Mccann believes the huge lead at the top could be a factor in a drop in performances.
He added: “It’s difficult to break teams down but they’re playing below their capabilities.”
