‘ED’S BACK TO HIS BEST FOR BHOYS’

- BY IAN WINROW

NEIL LENNON believes Odsonne Edouard is back to his top form after the striker’s double fired Celtic to a 2-1 win at St Johnstone.

Edouard (below) struck twice in two second-half minutes after Shaun Rooney had headed the hosts in front five minutes after the restart.

Boss Lennon (above) said: “Odsonne is back to his very best.

“Not just his goals but his all-round play, particularly in the second half.

“He lacked a bit of sharpness in the first half but he really came into his own after that.

“His link-up play and positional sense were really good and his two finishes were class.

“The first goal, he needs to do that more often and get across the near post and he’ll score more goals.”

He added: “I thought we played well. The players are in a good place at the minute but they had to work hard for it today.”

The win leaves Lennon’s side 18 points behind leaders Rangers with a game in hand.

Steven Gerrard’s side took another step towards the title with a 1-0 win against Kilmarnock on Saturday.

Ryan Jack struck the only goal of the game to give the Ibrox club a boost ahead of Thursday’s Europa League clash with Royal Antwerp.

The midfielder said: “We deserve to be getting that tie and be where we are at.

“We are going to go in on Thursday, give it our all and hopefully it’s enough to get us through and into the next round.”

ONLY Brighton fans of a certain age can recall when the Seagulls enjoyed such a long unbeaten run in the top-flight.

Saturday’s draw with Aston Villa meant Graham Potter’s side have gone six league games without defeat.

You have to go back 40 years to better that, and eight matches unbeaten when Mike Bailey was in charge.

Albion couldn’t find the finish to turn one point into three against Villa and Potter (above) might well wish he had introduced Adam Lallana into the action sooner.

Despite only coming on in the 62nd minute, no player created more chances in the match than the former Liverpool man (4).

BURNLEY (29y 349d) became the first opponent to name a starting XI with an older average age than Crystal Palace (29y 148d) in a Premier League game against the Eagles this season.

It turned out Roy Hodgson’s ‘kids’ didn’t have the legs to keep up with Sean Dyche’s golden oldies as they slumped to a 3-0 defeat.
