DOVER HALT SEASON ON DEBT FEARS

- BY IAN WINROW

DOVER have called a halt to their National League fixtures after placing players, management and staff on furlough.

Club chairman Jim Parmenter has funded the club since government grants to clubs were ended in December.

But with support now limited to loans, Parmenter (above) says the club cannot continue the campaign until more funding is made available.

Parmenter said: “We wanted to leave the decision that’s been made as long as possible before making this final announcement in the hope a support package may appear.

“Unfortunately no support has been forthcoming, so it is with the deepest regret that the club must now furlough all staff and players and reduce operations to a bare minimum.

“All financial reserves have now been completely exhausted. For 15 years, I have run the club without debt and I do not intend to change that now.

“The club will be unable to fulfil further National League fixtures until appropriate funding is made available.”

SUTTON beat BOREHAM WOOD 2-0 to move to within seven points of leaders Torquay with three games in hand.

Will Randall sealed victory after Louis John opened the scoring with his first goal since returning to the club two years ago.

STOCKPORT had to settle for a 0-0 draw against ALDERSHOT after an 88th-minute John Rooney penalty was saved by Mitch Ward. A win would have lifted County to third.

Rhys Murphy and Chris Dagnall scored as YEOVIL beat ALTRINCHAM 2-0 to move five points clear of the relegation places.
