WHO WOULD HAVE THOUGHT Zoom dysmorphia

- Assisted by Hajni Domokos

Do you like yourself on

Zoom? If not, you could have Zoom dysmorphia, a phenomenon revealed in a study carried out at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, US.

Zoom dysmorphia has developed alongside the increased use of virtual meetings held over webcams, which can make people look washed out.

The study argued that people have already sought plastic surgery because of how they look on a computer screen.

People were most unhappy about their noses, acne and wrinkles.

Study author Dr Arianne Shadi Kourosh said: “A life disproportionately spent on Zoom may trigger a self-critical comparative response that leads people to rush to their physicians for treatments they may not have considered before confronting a video screen.”

Lockdown has helped Charlotte Lloyd in Scarborough, North Yorkshire, bake the perfect chocolate cake.

The 17-year-old, who normally studies catering at college, is focusing on her baking between homeschool lessons. She says: “This was my sister’s birthday cake – it was a huge success.

“I’m self-taught and have been making cakes for my family ever since I could walk. But then my mum found out she was a coeliac, which changed my baking. I now make cakes for people with any allergies so that they can still enjoy delicious baking.” JUDGE’S COMMENT: Gluten-free doesn’t have to mean taste-free – as this magnificent drip cake proves. If it tastes anywhere near as good as it looks, then I declare Charlotte our top chocolate cake baker of lockdown.

SCORE: 10/10
