Tommy chalks up 26 miles
A SIX-YEAR-OLD from Northern Ireland has helped launch a major project to support families in East Africa this year.
Tommy Mckee will run and cycle a marathon this month to raise money for people in South Sudan as families dig deep as part of Trocaire’s annual Lenten campaign.
And this year donations will be boosted after the Government agreed to match the money raised.
The overseas development charity says the “UK Aid Match” programme could result in up to £2million of
extra funding. This will help people like Tommy make a real difference.
The youngster from Lisburn helped Trocaire launch their campaign yesterday after they got an email from his mum Helen Mccarragher a few weeks ago.
In it she told how while looking at his dinner “he said that he was thinking of the poor children and what he could do to help them get more food”.
After searching online he decided to aid Trocaire by doing 26 miles for the charity. Tommy said: “I wanted to help Trocaire because poor children don’t have anything.
“I’m going to do a marathon – running, cycling, walking and jogging. I hope the money will give the children whatever they need.” To find out more visit www. trocaire.org or call 0800 912 1200.
