VW CUTS COST OF BUYING AN ID.3

- BY JOHN FALLON

Volkswagen has introduced what now becomes the entry-level model in the ID.3 range. It’s the Life Pro and it costs £28,670.

Like the Pro Performance model above it, it’s fitted with a 58kwh battery, but the electric motor produces 145PS of power, whereas the Pro Performance kicks out 204PS. So this entry level model is a bit slower off the mark (0-62mph in 9.6sec instead of 7.3sec) but it offers the same impressive maximum range of 263 miles from full to flat.

Charging times are the same, too, with a 0-80% charge taking 35 minutes.

YOUNG gun Aaron Hill was left “disappointed” as he crashed out of the Welsh Open.

The Cork tour rookie was hammered 4-1 by Ali Carter in the second round at Celtic Manor yesterday.

“I’m more disappointed with the way I played than anything else,” admitted the teenager. “I had my chances but I just wasn’t good enough to take them.”

Ken Doherty suffered a painful 4-0 whitewash at the hands of Martin O’donnell but Antrim pair Jordan Brown and Mark Allen won through.

WINGER Alex Wootton is pledging his future to Connacht after his career took off this season on loan from Munster.

The 26-year-old is on a one-year loan deal at The Sportsground, but Wootton is looking forward to making the move permanent after running in eight tries in 13 appearances.

Coach Andy Friend made it clear earlier in the season that he was keen to hold on to Wootton (right) and he’s delighted that the Macclesfield man sees his future in Galway.

“He has come in and he has been a breath of fresh air,” said Friend (left). “He has been brilliant, he is a lovely athlete, scored some great tries and knows his way to the line. He has been a real addition to us this season and long may that continue. You don’t have to be a rocket scientist to work it out – but you only get better if you’re playing.”

Wootton, qualified for Ireland through his dad who is from Down, said: “I have really enjoyed my time here, it has worked out really well. I’m commuting up and down from Limerick and it can be a bit of a grind – but there will be a bit of good news for Connacht and myself in the next few weeks.”
