JED WALLACE and Ben Thompson scored the goals to boost in-form Millwall’s hopes of making the play-offs.

Gary Rowett’s men have won their last three league matches and are unbeaten in six with a favourable set of fixtures ahead.

And the Lions had a lead gifted to them in under three minutes when Wallace (above) pounced on Mikel San Jose’s dreadfully short back pass.

The visitors saw Harlee Dean’s efforts blocked, while Kristian Pedersen was denied by Bartosz Bialkowski.

But Thompson grabbed the vital second goal, converting Shaun Hutchinson’s cross.

AFTER Spurs lost to Manchester City, Jose Mourinho whined about the penalty won by Ilkay Gundogan.

“We were punished by what I call a modern penalty,” he said. “These are the penalties when you cannot deny there was contact, but in modernity every contact is a penalty.”

In other words players are going down too easily and he doesn’t like it.

Strange that.

Only last month Marcus Rashford claimed Mourinho taught Manchester United players to be cleverer in the box so they could earn more spotkicks.

“There were five or six times where I should’ve had a penalty.

“Jose ended up saying to me if you’re not savvy about the way you do it then you’re not going to get it. After that we started to get a few,” said Rashford (above).

Begging the question: What came first? Refs giving modern penalties or modern managers teaching players how to con them?
