ANDEAN FLAMINGOES

- BY THOMAS HORNALL

These incredible birds get their pink colour from the food they eat and only the pinkest of them can join in the spectacular mating dance.

Females which have raised a chick the previous year lack the colours for courtship. The effort of raising the chick drains the pink from their feathers and they need time to accumulate the colour pigments again from their food.

AN activist who spent almost a month underground protesting the HS2 railway line has been removed from a tunnel near London’s Euston Station.

Geography lecturer Dr Larch Maxey, 48, had his belongings confiscated by bailiffs on Monday.

Before being taken to hospital as a precaution he said: “I have basically met my match, they’ve come for me and they’ve rinsed me completely.”

The activist, from group HS2 Rebellion, is likely to face criminal charges “for aggravated trespass or other related offences”.

Sustainability researcher Dr Maxey is the fifth person to leave the 100ft network of tunnels.

Another four people are thought to still be in the underground lair.

A TEENAGER got Nando’s to put his favourite meal back on the menu – by asking them every day.

Andreas Health, 17, was gutted the Sunset Chicken Burger was off the pared back pandemic menu.

He kept tweeting about the missing dish – two flame-grilled PERI-PERI chicken thighs, cheese, spinach and smoky red pepper jam in a bun.

And he even got celebrity backing from boxer Anthony Joshua.

Nando’s put the burger back on the menu on day 37 of the student’s campaign and told him “your persistence paid off ”.

Chuffed Andreas, from Stockport, said: “I ordered one straight away. When the delivery man arrived I could have hugged him.”
