My Ender was so sad
IT was a tragic death that shocked I’m A Celeb’s Jessica Plummer so much, the devastated star went into a period of mourning - even though it was a fictional character...
The actress admits she felt “shock” when she found out her Eastenders character Chantelle Atkins was going to be killed off, describing: “It felt like I’d just been given the news that a friend was terminally ill.
“Which sounds really odd - it’s my character, I should know more than anybody that it’s not real.
“I felt like all of a sudden I needed to mourn my character, to say goodbye to my character,” she continues, adding
that she felt pangs of sadness at significant moments for Chantelle. Jessica added: “In the months leading up to it, I would do things like put on Chantelle’s wedding ring and think: ‘Oh my goodness, is this the last time she wears it?’ It was weird.”
Chantelle’s death was part of a domestic violence plot aired after lockdown, that Jessica says was “the right move” and a “powerful” storyline for the soap. “I was sad to leave Eastenders, but if it means one woman escapes her domestic abusive relationship, it was worth it,” she says.
Speaking on the new episode of Netmums’ Sweat, Snot and Tears podcast, out today, Jessica says she and Shane Richie were horrifically sick after drinking blended fish eyes, among other things.
“There was a lot of spitting, being sick and swearing,” she confesses.
Getting down to the gory details of the fishy upset, Jessica went on: “I was really sick afterwards that evening. and I think I must have got everything out of my system. I woke up fine, but Shane, bless him, was sitting on the toilet for about five days after it.”
Lovely.
