Jess for laughs
It’s Golden Globes weekend – the first big (virtual) bash of the awards season.
Pretty much everyone from The Crown is vying for a gong. But the big winner’s already Netflix.
Not because it has the most nominations, (42 to second-placed Amazon’s 10), but because two were for the oh-so-very-so-so comedy Emily In Paris. (If it beats Schitt’s Creek, the judges will be the ones up there without a paddle).
So to celebrate the start of the back-slapping, gong-giving season, I thought I’d dish out a few of my own to this week’s celebs in the news:
On this day 28 YEARS AGO (1993)
We reported US President Bill Clinton’s limousine had been destroyed in an al-qaeda bomb attack on New York’s World Trade Center. Six people died and more than 500 were injured.
121 YEARS AGO (1900)
The Labour Party was founded at a conference at the Memorial
Hall in Farringdon, London. The meeting’s attendees included Scottish socialist Keir Hardie.
70 YEARS AGO (1951)
The 22nd amendment to the US Constitution was ratified which limited presidents to two terms after Franklin D Roosevelt died in 1945, months into a fourth term.
Today’s giggle
Never discuss infinity with a mathematician. They go on about it for ever.

A RARE Ferrari stolen from Mamma Mia! star Dominic Cooper has been found by police at a junkyard.
The red 1978 Ferrari Dino 308 GT4 – worth £83,000 – appeared to have been “hotwired” by thieves.
It was pinched from the actor’s home in Primrose Hill, North London, on February 19 and found more than 50 miles away in Reigate, Surrey, with four other stolen vehicles.
It has now been taken to a special compound.
A source said: “The dash has been broken, some of the wires have been cut.
“The car is not in pristine condition, it needs a polish. Everyone was talking about how it is Dominic Cooper’s car.”’
Car lover Dominic, 42, also had an Austin Healey, a Range Rover and Jaguar F-type nicked last year.
