IS BEATING SLAVIA OUR FOCUS.. NOT ARF!
SCOTT ARFIELD was a Rangers fan long before he pulled on a blue jersey and under normal circumstances would have been obsessing over the impending Old Firm clash at Parkhead.
But the fact that a visit to
Celtic isn’t even the most important match the club will play this week is proof of the strides the Scots-born Canada international (right) and his team-mates have made.
After a momentous season that now stretches to 46 games and only one defeat at home and abroad, the midfielder said: “This is as big as any for us. For one reason, it’s the next game.
“The other reason is that we’ve got a terrific chance to get to the last eight, one stage further than last season, so it’s a huge game against a very good team and one we are looking forward to.
“We can put that Old Firm game on the back burner. I know it’s hard for some people to do as fans, but as professionals, we need to.
“This club is built on a tradition of success, so to go one stage further would be great for us.”
NEW coach Damir Krznar says Dinamo Zagreb will not be distracted by the scandal involving his predecessor.
Zoran Mamic quit this week after being sentenced to four years and eight months in jail in Croatia for fraud relating to club funds.
But Krznar insists preparations for the second leg had already been done and he will still discuss tonight’s game with Mamic. The former assistant coach said: “We discussed all the preparations and tactics for the game.
“We are also friends so we’ll definitely discuss the game afterwards. It is a big loss but we must have hope in order to win.”
