Our new gardener at Dark Lord Towers is short, fat and hairy. He doesn’t grow anything so much as just dig bleeding great holes.

Yes Boris the pug has become a mole, and is clearly trying to burrow into next door’s kitchen. It’s driving me bonkers because when he comes back into the house, he brings half the garden with him.

He’s not the only destructive pet out there. A new study by money.co.uk looked at emoji reactions to all pet-related posts online in the past year to see which breeds are making the most people smile, laugh or cry. Or, in my case, follow him round the house with a dustpan and brush.

After analysing posts from owners on petforums. co.uk, the study results showed that staffies are the clumsiest breed, with most complaints of broken plant pots, glasses and mobile phones.

Labradors are most likely to soil your carpet, with more mentions of toilet training issues than any other dog type.

Collie owners complained of skirting boards and sofas being destroyed, and beagles were blamed for stealing food off plates, tipping over bins and ransacking cupboards. Or perhaps they muddled them up with toddlers? It does sound quite familiar.

But in the garden, it’s the Shih Tzu that gets into the most trouble for digging up the petunia flower beds, which is probably how the breed got its name in the first place! And when you think about it, a Shih Tzu is just a hairy pug, so I rest my case.
