Florian aims to flourish at top level after scoring against kids

WC qualifier, tomorrow, 5pm

JEREMY CROSS FLORIAN KAMBERI is the only member of Albania’s squad who knows what it’s like to score against England.

The striker, on loan at Aberdeen from St Gallen, was part of the Switzerland Under-21 side when he beat Jordan Pickford to earn his side a 1-1 draw with their English counterparts in 2016.

Kambari was born in Zurich of Kosovan descent and has switched his international allegiance to Albania since that night in Thun five years ago.

Now he has set his sights on adding another goal to his collection when the European minnows host Gareth Southgate’s men in a World Cup qualifier in Tirana tomorrow night.

Kambari, who made six appearances on loan at Rangers last season, is relishing the chance to take on some familiar faces again.

He said: “Jordan Pickford was the goalkeeper that day.

“That England team had Ben Chilwell and James Ward-prowse in it, so hopefully I can score against them again on

Sunday.

“They have a lot of great players, but their whole team is special. They have some incredible young players but their entire squad is full of top, top players.”

Kamberi, 26, cannot wait to showcase his skills on the big stage – in the hope it could boost his chances of doing it on a more regular basis. He added: “It will be good to play against an opponent like that, against top players who play at the very highest level.

“We will be able to test ourselves and we can see where we are.

“If I play then I will be up against defenders from Manchester City and United, fantastic players.

“At the top end they have guys like Harry Kane and you always look at players like that, how they move and what they do to try and use those things to benefit your own game.

“We all want to play at the highest level we can.

“Games like these are important and can help you show what a good player you are and that you have the potential to play at that level.”
