Let’s do this together

- Edited by SIOBHANMCNALLY

Happy Monday – and most of Tuesday – in the local park didn’t take as many drugs as the 90s band of the same name, but it was certainly off its face.

The prime minister’s “great summer of sport” on our green got off to a good start with hammered students chucking empties to each other and blowing great billows of vape smoke.

I’m just pleased to see their hand-to-eye coordination and lung capacity haven’t been affected by Covid. Drinking Olympics – here they come! Actually it’s been brilliant to sit on Bozza’s favourite smelly bench in the sunshine and listen to all the happy chatter of people hanging out together. And the dog’s delighted that the teenagers are back with a full range of Pringles and their funny-smelling cigarettes.

I’d have joined them all on their picnic blankets (coats) if I didn’t have deadlines and been on the wagon, so I’ll have to wait a few more weeks for the pub gardens to get back on the Lady Petrol.

In the meantime, I’m enjoying myself vicariously by booking slots in pubs and restaurants with outside seating in two weeks’ time. But with only an hour and a half allowed at each venue, going for a quiet drink to catch up with a mate keeps turning into a pub crawl.

I’ve also renewed my online dating app, which can only mean one thing – goodbye Sensible Sober Mum and Hello Sailors! Or at least greying, divorced father-of-two from Reading…
