JETLAG TALK IS A RED HERRING

- BY GARETH FULLERTON

JAMEL HERRING insists his late arrival in Dubai won’t be a factor when he steps into the ring tomorrow night.

The WBO super-featherweight world champion only landed in the UAE at the start of the week, affording him only a few days to overcome any jetlag and adjust to a new time zone.

Herring looked relaxed as he batted off questions about the travel arrangements, and speculation over him struggling to make weight.

“No. I have my nutritionist here. I go by what she says,” he smiled.

“In terms of getting here, no problems. The whole jet-lag isn’t an issue. We started training late in the day when we arrived here because the fight will be late in the day. We are adjusting to the time difference.”

Herring will enter the ring in Dubai as the WBO world superfeatherweight champion, but will go into the fight as slight underdog.

Frampton (left) is bidding to become Ireland’s first-ever three-weight world champion, a potential feat that has led to the bill being dubbed ‘Legacy’.

“I’ve told people throughout camp that I’m a fan of Carl,” Herring added. “He’s a two-division champion and besides his accolades in the ring, he’s a father and a husband like myself, so we both share mutual respect. We want to do our job and get back to our families.

“With everything that he has done in his career, he will be the biggest name on my resume.

“I’ve been invited to Belfast many times, so maybe down the road me and him can get that pint.”
