REDS UNITE TO BATTLE THE BIGOTS

- BY DAVID MCDONNELL

MANCHESTER United have launched their SEE RED campaign to tackle racism and discrimination.

It encourages fans to report incidents of racism or other hate crimes and to stand up for those who are subjected to discrimination.

United players Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial (below), Fred and Axel Tuanzebe have been victims of racist abuse on social media in recent months, and the club are determined to call out such abhorrent conduct, with the launch of a new online reporting system.

The SEE RED initiative builds on the work of United’s ‘All Red All Equal’ antidiscrimination programme and also features a video challenging the club’s fans to think about diversity.

The video highlights Andy Cole’s title-clinching goal in the 1999 Treble season, Jesse Lingard’s FA Cup-winning strike in 2016 and Marcus Rashford’s added-time penalty to seal an epic comeback Champions League win at PSG in 2019.

The aim is to make Reds fans think about key moments in their team’s glittering history that could not have happened without diversity and the contribution of black and Asian players.

Richard Arnold, United Group managing director, said: “We challenge our fans, and indeed fans of every club, to watch this and think about their own favourite memories, their top teams and their most celebrated players.

“How different would those memories be without the diversity of some of the best players in the world who have graced our game and our club?

“United has been, and always will be, a club for all.” zfans can engage with the initiative on social media using #Seered. Instances of racist abuse on any social media platform can be reported via manutd.com/seered.
