RALPH: INGS SAINT GOING ANYWHERE

- BY NEIL MCLEMAN

RALPH HASENHUTTL said he is confident Danny Ings will stay at Southampton and questioned whether the England striker is good enough for either of the Manchester giants.

Negotiations are onging over a new deal for the former Liverpool forward, who is out of contract next summer. Ings, who is set to return from injury against Burnley tomorrow, has been linked with Manchester City as a replacement for

Sergio Aguero.

But Saints manager Hasenhuttl hinted that both City and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s

Manchester United may have bigger fish to fry than Ings (with City boss Pep Guardiola, below).

“I expect a very hot transfer summer because there are some players around getting linked with clubs,” the Austrian said

“I know there are names like Haaland and Sancho who are on the list of Man City and Man United. They have the financial potential to take everybody.

“Ingsie had a fantastic season last season. Since then he has had a few injury problems and hasn’t scored that many but is still a very good striker. Is that good enough to be an option for them? I don’t know. I expect him to stay with us because he knows what he has with us.

“He has one more year on his contract. It will be an interesting situation if one of the big clubs wants him – it is always difficult for us to keep a player with us, this is normal – but I don’t see this scenario in the summer.

“You can be sure that we are negotiating with the agent and with him and I am very positive that his future is with Southampton.”

James Ward-prowse (above) will face a late fitness on the calf strain which kept him out of England’s win over Poland.

Saints, who will have Theo Walcott available, go into the weekend on 33 points in 14th. Wins against Burnley tomorrow and West Brom next week should guarantee Premier League survival before their FA Cup semifinal with high-flying Leicester on April 18.
