JACK EUROS BID TO BOOST VILLA

- BY DAVE ARMITAGE

DEAN SMITH will be stunned if Aston Villa ace Jack Grealish is bombed out of the England squad for the Euros.

Grealish (above) looked nailed on to make the summer showpiece until being struck down by a shin injury.

He has missed Villa’s last six games and was ruled out of Gareth Southgate’s plans for the three World Cup qualifiers.

The Three Lions boss has warned he is already having “horrible conversations” with players who might not make the cut. But Grealish does look like making the squad.

Grealish is poised to play against Fulham tomorrow and manager Smith (right) says he is not expecting his star man to sit it out this summer.

Smith said: “I am fortunate I don’t have to make that decision. That will be down to Gareth. But in terms of Jack, I would be very surprised if he is not included because when they start talking about Player of the Season, I would fully expect Jack to be among those mentioned.”

Smith hopes Villa can benefit from a player going hell for leather to make sure he books his England ticket.

He added: “It will obviously benefit us. All players hoping to get into tournament football this summer know this is their last chance to impress the managers of their countries. We have got 10 games to do that.”

Ezri Konsa has signed a new four-year deal at Villa, heading off interest from Liverpool and Tottenham. The defender, 23, made a £12million move from Brentford in 2019 to rejoin his former boss Smith.
