Vape-switch driver wins £1m

VAN driver John Mcfadden landed a £1million National Lottery scratchcar­d win thanks to quitting smoking.

John, 63, popped out to buy a vape after deciding it was time to ditch cigarettes.

With his change he bought a 50X Scratchcar­d, and is now laughing all the way to the bank.

He is now planning on buying a new home with a hot tub and is plotting some dream getaways to exotic destinatio­ns.

The grandad, from Southampto­n, said: “I knew I had to do something about my smoking. With change from the vape, I bought a scratchcar­d.

“When I started scratching it off, it said £50,000 under the first number and thought ‘whoopee!’

The store told him the win was too big for them to handle. He added: “I called Camelot and was stunned when they said I had actually won £1million.” The divorced dad-of-three is now planning to move closer to his children and grandchild­ren, who live in Weymouth, Dorset.

He added: “Hopefully, the bar and hot tub I plan in my new back garden will also mean more fun family time.”

John, who has no plans to quit his job delivering meat across the UK, is counting down the days until his bucket-list trips to Bora Bora, in the South Pacific, Cambodia and Vietnam. He also plans to help family.

Lucky Stars 2 and 5, for Britain’s fifthbigge­st lottery win. The winner of Saturday’s £12.5m National Lottery has also come forward along with five £1m winners, leaving three to claim.
