the South Eastern Trust, oversees distribution of now largely Astrazeneca jabs within the centre.

She added: “Everybody’s been really buzzed. I feel really honoured and privileged to be part of this.”

In her department, she revealed they “have got a lot of community pharmacists, some have come out of retirement to help, some are pharmacy assistants that have been furloughed so they have come to help”.

Ciara O’neill, vaccinator and recovery bay nurse, recently took up the call to help deliver jabs at SSE.

She said: “There’s a lot to do but it is very enjoyable and you have a bit of craic with people – they are getting their vaccines and everybody wins.” Head of

ICT Darren Henderson added “it was a challenge” getting all those systems in place. But he said: “I have really enjoyed it. It was exciting and a real positive thing to be working on.”

While the Trust oversee much of what is happening at SSE, they are also supported by venue staff.

Lisa Mcanally, who has managed events there for six years, is now duty manager for the rollout.

For her the highlight has been “getting back into the building” which had been closed for a year.

She added: “I am really relieved we can play our part in all of this – the vaccine programme obviously is key for getting things back open.”

A FURTHER 84 cases of Covid-19 have been confirmed in Northern Ireland, figures released on Saturday revealed.

No new deaths linked to the virus were reported by the Department of Health and the toll remains at 2,116.

A total of 788 new cases have been confirmed in the past seven days, bringing the overall total to 117,587 since the pandemic began. No figures were released yesterday. Northern Ireland’s seven-day incidence rate per 100,000 of the population now stands at 41.9. Mid-ulster recorded the highest rate at 75.9, while Ards and North Down was lowest at 27.3.

The latest statistics released showed hospital occupancy standing at 96%.

There were 16 people being treated in intensive care but the total number of Covid patients in hospitals was not known due to a technical issue with the Department of Health’s dashboard.
