DYCHE: OUR HONESTY IS COSTING US

SEAN DYCHE said Burnley stopped doing the basics after letting a two-goal lead slip against Southampto­n.

But he feels his players are being punished for their honesty.

The Clarets were in full control after half an hour at St Mary’s – yet ended up leaving with nothing.

Dyche (above) admitted: “I’m frustrated. It’s one of them that got away from us through our own lack of awareness of how to see the first half out, really.

“We were very good in the first 30 minutes.”

Dyche was particular­ly unhappy with the goal from Danny Ings, the finger pointing at Ben Mee.

He said: “The second goal we gave them, really. They came back into it from nowhere. The second was just an individual error from a player who doesn’t normally make them.”

Despite being awarded a penalty in the 12th minute, Dyche was furious Burnley were not given two more.

“We got a penalty today but they tried not to give us it,” said the Clarets boss.

“Chris Wood had his shirt pulled. I’m a big fan of VAR and I think it will get better.

“He’s clearly pulled his shirt. If that happens in the middle of the pitch, of course it’s given.

“Ryan Bertrand’s handball wasn’t even looked at.

“We tend to not go down easy but then you tend to get penalised.

”Our record for getting penalties is the worst in the Premier League and maybe that’s why.”

DANNY INGS returned to form at just the right time as Southampto­n staged a stunning comeback to all but ensure survival.
