VAULKS’ KO ‘RIDICULOUS’ INSISTS PACK

- BY JAMES CANDY

MARLON PACK believes Will Vaulks’ Wales snub is “ridiculous”.

In-form Bluebirds midfielder Vaulks was ignored by his country for the last international break.

The former Rotherham man admitted he was gutted to be left out and that he had not been given a reason for his omission.

Vaulks (above) remains a key figure for Mick Mccarthy’s Cardiff, who today travel to Sheffield Wednesday looking to keep track on the Championship’s top six.

Team-mate Pack said: “We have a bit of friendly banter with Will about not getting in the Wales squad. He takes it in his stride and quite well but it can’t be nice, especially when other lads from our team are leaving to go there.

“Credit to Will – he does take a good joke and it’s the whole squad giving it to him.

“As an Englishman, I can come out and say I think it’s ridiculous he wasn’t in there with the form he’s been in. He’s playing in a side that’s doing well in the Championship.”

Jamie Smith takes the reins again at Wednesday today with manager Darren Moore (circle) still in quarantine after testing positive for Covid-19.

And the Owls assistant boss remains upbeat about their chances of a great escape from the Championship quicksands – even though they are seven points adrift of safety.

Smith was heartened by the Owls’ display in a narrow Good Friday defeat at Watford.

He said: “We go into the game with confidence and we will play to win. We can see the improvements and progress we have made in recent weeks.

“Now we must take them into the Cardiff game and all our remaining games this season.

“There have been lots of positives to take and we will continue to fight for every point.”
