NIGHT FEEDS ...THEN I’LL EAT KHAN ALIVE

Benn wants a bit of baby time then a fight with Amir after his one-round demolition of Vargas

- BY CHRIS MCKENNA

CONOR BENN first has to catch up on the night feeds with his baby boy – then he wants to end Amir Khan’s career.

The Essex-based welterweight put on a stunning display to wipe out Samuel Vargas inside 90 seconds (above, right) at the Copper Box Arena in London on Saturday night.

It was a ruthless display from the rapidly improving 24-year-old son of former two-weight champion Nigel.

That is down to hard work in the gym with trainer Tony Sims but he will have a few days off now to spend with four-month-old Eli.

Benn said: “I will need a break because I want to emotionally spend time with my son, I want to spend time with my family.

“I only had three days off when he was born and I’ve got a lot of night feeds to catch up on.”

But Benn is not planning on hanging around.

Now he wants Khan, the former light-welterweight champion who has been out of the ring since July 2019.

‘The Destroyer’ mocked Khan for spending too much time on a reality TV series and really wants to face him next.

He said: “Give me Amir

Khan. I know he’s too busy on reality TV. If he wants it, he can have it.

“I can deal with pressure. I can cope with it. I can live with it, no problem. I’m the most rapidly improved fighter globally.”

Benn’s claim about his improvement isn’t far from the truth. He is now 18-0 but looking like a more rounded boxer with each fight.

Vargas was well past his best but Benn got him out far quicker than the likes of Errol Spence Jr, Danny Garcia and Khan himself.

Benn said: “You are talking levels and it shows what level I’m at.

“Errol Spence, Danny Garcia, Vergil Ortiz, Amir Khan... nobody banged him out like that.

“When I hit him and the shot landed, I thought

‘Alright, this is going to end a lot quicker than I thought’. I told you lot I would knock him out in the first round and what happened? I knocked him out in the first round.”

His father said before the fight that he wants to see him in with American former world champion Shawn Porter next.

Benn added: “Any of them, give me Amir Khan and give me Shawn Porter.

“I will go Stateside if I have to, it don’t bother me.

“Everyone is all on the hype train at the minute.

“If I lose, watch people write me off and then watch me come back. That is my mindset.”

Britain’s Shannon Courtenay won the WBA bantamweight title on points after a bruising battle with Australian Ebanie Bridges on the undercard.
