Pervert arrested in paedo hunter sting is jailed
A MAN who was arrested following a “paedophile hunters” sting was jailed yesterday.
Belfast Crown Court heard that after posing as a teenager, Jordan Jeffers, 26, communicated with a child he believed was 14 – but who was in fact a member of the Paedophile Hunters NI.
After engaging in sexual communication on January 30, 2018, he then travelled to
Newtownabbey, Co Antrim, with a view to engaging in sexual activity with the young girl.
When the pervert attended the arranged meeting, he was apprehended by the vigilantes who contacted the PSNI.
Police were handed the phone used by the group while officers seized Jeffers’ mobile.
When his car was searched, a second handset was located along with condoms. Jeffers was arrested and when a follow-up search of his address in Ulsterville Avenue in Portadown, Co Armagh, was conducted, two more mobile phones were found.
When they were examined, messages were found which indicated sexual conversations with other children, along with indecent images.
Jeffers initially gave a “no comment” response to police but made full admissions last October.
He pleaded guilty to seven offences including sexual communication with a child and having indecent images of children.
A defence barrister said Jeffers “accepts his behaviour was despicable” and that his offending has had an impact on his victims.
Judge Stephen Fowler imposed the 12-month sentence and said that given the nature of the offending, it was “not appropriate to suspend the sentence”.
