LINFIELD were the big winners as nearest title rivals Coleraine and Glentoran drew for the second time in four days last night.

After a 2-2 scoreline at The Oval midweek, this 1-1 stalemate wasn’t what either manager would have been hoping for in the race for the Gibson Cup. 1

The Glens and Bannsiders had both been hoping for three points to exert the pressure on David Healy’s Blues, but a share of the spoils kept the chasing pack at bay.

With the final strait in view, Linfield – who can extend their lead at the top at home to Ballymena today – boast an eight point advantage over Coleraine, with the added bonus of a game in hand.

They also had a 10 point cushion over the Ovalmen who took the lead last night thanks to Robbie Mcdaid’s 14th goal of the season.

A driving run and pass from Ciaran O’connor teed up the striker who made no mistake with a volleyed finish.

Coleraine, whose title bid has faltered in recent weeks with just one win in their last five outings hit back in the 64th minute.

Ben Doherty whipped a teasing cross into the area and a combination of Matthew Shevlin and Eoin Bradley forced the ball home from point blank range.

The Glens, who had a Mcdaid effort ruled out for offside prior to the equaliser, missed a golden chance to win at the death when Rory Donnelly miscued his header three yards out.

ZCLIFTONVILLE will seal a top six finish if they secure a win in today’s 5.30pm kick-off with Portadown at Shamrock Park.
