Captain Kan do it for Willie
BACK in calmer waters, having contested Cheltenham’s County Hurdle last time, Captain Kangaroo should continue the fine form of champion trainer Willie Mullins in a division of the Kildimo Maiden Hurdle in Limerick today.
Mullins struck a treble in Tramore yesterday, highlighted by Bapuame’s successful return to chasing in the Tramore Racecourse Directors Chase, second leg of a double for jockey Brian Hayes - enjoying his best ever season and also successful on the Mullins-trained Gelee Blanche in the opener.
The Closutton maestro is represented at both Limerick and Tramore today. And 126-rated Captain Kangaroo, back in maiden company, should be very tough to beat.
Prior to his Cheltenham run, Captain Kangaroo filled the runner-up berth in maiden hurdles won by On Eagles Wings and
Hurricane Cliff in Naas and, don’t forget, he beat
Kilcruit in a Clonmel bumper last year.
Boasting a similar rating (125), Global Equity – a 10-race maiden over hurdles but second to the likes of Roseys Hollow and Coral Cup winner Heaven Help Us – should open her account in the opener.
Meanwhile,
Kevin
Prendergast’s
Alhaazm completed a four-timer on the polytrack when landing the sevenfurlong Hollywoodbets Handicap in Dundalk yesterday, second leg of a double for Chris Hayes.
Aidan O’brien (inset) and Ryan Moore dominated Saturday’s action at the Curragh completing a fourtimer – including Group 3 victories for Broome and Lancaster House.
And the combination will be represented by Hector de Maris, winner of a Naas nursery last autumn, in the Blue Riband Trial (listed race) in Epsom tomorrow.
