HEY JUDE, I WANT TO BE FAB LIKE YOU
TYREEQ BAKINSON is inspired by Jude Bellingham’s journey from Championship to Champions League.
The 22-year-old Bristol City midfielder (above) scored his third goal of the season with a late equaliser at Sheffield Wednesday.
And the Robins did it the hard way – playing with 10 men for 70 minutes after Henri Lansbury was given a straight red for handball.
Owls playmaker Barry Bannan missed the resulting penalty.
Bakinson is motivated by 17-year-old Bellingham, who starred for Borussia Dortmund against Manchester City over two legs in the Champions League.
Discussing Bellingham’s form following his £25million summer move from Birmingham to the Bundesliga, Bakinson said: “It’s great to see young players from all levels making it to the highest level of football.
“That confidence comes from always trying to improve yourself every day – working on things that aren’t your strongest points.”
Bakinson struck with three minutes left at Hillsborough to cancel out Julian Borner’s early header and leave Wednesday staring relegation in the face.
Home boss Darren Moore was absent after developing pneumonia from a bout of coronavirus.
Wednesday host Blackburn tomorrow and assistant boss Jamie Smith said: “Another tough game. Rovers have got a quality squad, quality players. They’re a good footballing team and we’re going to have to be at it.”
