KID KEANE INSISTS HULL WILL PLAY IT COOL

- BY ROSS HEPPENSTALL

KEANE LEWIS-POTTER is struggling to keep a lid on the hype surrounding Hull’s promotion charge. The 20-year-old Hull-born forward and lifelong Tigers fan scored the winner which left Grant Mccann’s side on the brink of promotion.

Victory over Sunderland at home tomorrow could potentially seal an immediate return to the Championship for Hull, who are vying with Peterborough to go up as champions.

Academy product Lewis-potter (left) said: “Promotion is in our hands. If we win every week we don’t have to look at other results. We just concentrate on ourselves, that’s all we can do.

“Obviously your mates and other people talk to you about it but it’s about keeping level-headed and taking every game as it comes.

You can’t get ahead of yourself because that’s when things go wrong.”

Hull were flat in the first half and Fleetwood led in the 22nd minute when Wes Burns crossed low from the right for Kyle Vassell to tap in.

Yet they improved after the break and levelled in the 61st minute when Josh Magennis raced onto Greg Docherty’s pass to rifle home (below). Hull’s winner came on 70 minutes when Dan Crowley delivered a dangerous cross and Lewis-potter headed home.

Lewis-potter added: “I said at the beginning of the season I wanted to reach double figures. I’ve got 12 league goals now but I need to keep going and help the team out by getting as many as I can from now on.”

Fleetwood look set for a mid-table finish but scorer Vassell said: “We should have won it but Hull are top for a reason.

“They have spirit and fight and that’s what won them the game.”
