LINE OF DUTY: NEW THEORY & REAL CRIME LINKS Trailer ‘clue’ to Kate’s gunshots fate

LINE of Duty star Vicky Mcclure was seen alive and well yesterday – as viewers claimed to have cracked the case over whether DI Kate Fleming survives.

As Vicky, 37, popped out to the shops, eagle-eyed fans pointed to an early trailer of the BBC One show as proof Kate will emerge unscathed from her shoot-out with PC Ryan Pilkington.

It was posted before the drama began last month by showrunner Jed Mercurio and yesterday fans were re-posting it, with one caption simply saying: “It’s OK Kate fans.”

Ted Hastings (Adrian Dunbar) is seen trying to persuade someone – probably Pilkington – into giving themselves up. Over a loudhailer, he says: “This is Superintendant Hastings – you’ll be treated fairly with the full protection of the law.” His words are followed by a shot of DI Steve Arnott (Martin Compston), then two people who appear to be Kate and Acting DS Jo Davidson, with her hands up.

The trailer ends with a lingering look at Kate’s rage-filled face, followed by a shot of her touching her gun.

She is in the same clothes 9.9 million viewers saw her wear on Sunday for her meeting with Davidson (Kelly Macdonald) in a lorry park.

The episode became the most-watched drama instalment of the year and is the second highest programme behind Oprah Winfrey’s ITV interview with Harry and Meghan.

Yesterday actor Adrian, 62, was keeping tightlipped as he appeared on Good Morning Britain. He said: “A lot of fans know what is going on. There is a clue out there.”

Asked if Kate would be appearing in a seventh series, he laughed: “I’d love to help you but I’d have to kill you.”
