EUROS & CUP FINAL HEARTBREAK FOR HARVEY

- BY DAVE ARMITAGE

HARVEY BARNES has been ruled out of the FA Cup Final and the Euros.

The Leicester and England winger (left) was dealt the shattering double blow after having a second minor operation on his knee.

Foxes boss Brendan Rodgers revealed the 23-year-old had to make the decision on whether to wait or go ahead with a “clear up” following his first op.

Barnes, who has scored 13 goals this season and had forced himself into the Three Lions squad, was injured in the 3-1 home defeat to

Arsenal on February 28.

Rodgers said: “He’s had a slight setback. It’s a shame, but he’s had a second minor operation to clear up damage in his knee.

“It rules him out for the rest of the season. But the plan is to get through this and get him back for pre-season.” Barnes had to write-off his slim chances of being back in time for the Foxes’ big Wembley day against Chelsea. Rodgers (left) added: “He’s disappointed, but clearly understood it was always going to be difficult for him to come back for the FA Cup Final. “He was fully aware this was an injury which was going to be six weeks at best, or could be up to 12 weeks.

“He’s in his seventh-odd week and there’s just a minor issue around that. It was a case of, ‘Do we deal with it now, or let it settle?’. Do we do something about it, which would put him out for the next number of weeks?”

“Hopefully, it will ensure that he’s back and fit with everyone else for pre-season. He was keen to go down that route.”

Rodgers has slammed the door shut on any potential advances from managerless Tottenham. The Leicester boss had been widely tipped as the London club’s top target after Jose Mourinho’s sacking, but said: “Tottenham is a great club, but I’m just in a really, really happy place in my life.

“I have a huge respect here for the players and the board, and I really feel that I want to continue my work here.

“I’ve got a set of players that give me their heart and soul every single day and also I can see a future here in terms of the development of the squad.”
