NEYMAR: I’LL DIE TO GET PSG TO FINAL

- BY NEIL MCLEMAN

NEYMAR has claimed he is ready to “die on the field” to lead Paris-saint Germain back to the Champions League final.

Last year’s beaten finalists trail Manchester City 2-1 before tomorrow night’s second leg at the Etihad Stadium.

And the Brazil superstar (above), the world’s most expensive player, said: “We had a very difficult first leg against Manchester City, but we have to believe, no matter what the stats say or our percentage chance of winning.

“I think every Parisian has to believe in us. I’m on the front line and I will be the first warrior who will go into battle for the team.

“I will give everything and I will do everything to bring this back, no matter what – even if I have to die on the field.”

PSG sporting director Leonardo was furious with the referee for not offering his fellow Brazilian more protection during the 2-1 Ligue 1 victory over Lens on Saturday.

The former Milan star confronted Jerome Brisard after the match over his failure to penalise a late foul on Neymar.

“It is not possible that 20 people see it and not you,” Leonardo was caught saying on French TV. “It is not the first time it has happened and it is always you.”

Reigning champions PSG remain in second place, a point behind Lille, with only three matches to go in Ligue 1.

And PSG head coach Mauricio Pochettino has defended his decision to play Neymar for almost the whole match.

“He’s a player who has been injured for a long time and needs play time,” said the former Tottenham boss, who only replaced Neymar in the 92nd minute.

“He recovers quickly, and there is time to recover before Tuesday.

“The risk of getting injured? There is always a risk of taking a hit but, in football, the risk is the same in the first minute, 45th or 90th.

“Neymar needs minutes on the pitch to be at his best level for the game on Tuesday.”
