INTER END JUVE REIGN AT THE TOP

- BY IAN WINROW

INTER MILAN ended Juventus’ nine-year hold on the Serie A title after Atalanta drew 1-1 with Sassuolo.

Antonio Conte’s side strengthened their position at the top of the table by beating Crotone 2-0 on Saturday.

And they clinched their first championship in 11 years when Atalanta’s failure to win left Inter 13 points clear with four games remaining.

It is Inter’s first Scudetto (celebrations, above) since Jose Mourinho led the club to a Serie A and Champions League double in 2010.

Former Chelsea boss Conte said: “We’re breaking up a dynasty. Not in my wildest dreams could I have imagined that we’d make up this much ground on the team that dominated Serie A for nine years in just two seasons.”

Ajax claimed their 35th Dutch league championship in style with a 4-0 win over Emmen. Jurrien Timber, Sebastien Haller, Davy Klaassen and Devyne Rensch were on target as Erik Ten Hag’s side wrapped up the title with three games to go.

The Amsterdam side

‘retain’ the crown they won two years ago with last season’s championship halted because of the coronavirus.

The triumph comes two days after Ten Hag extended his contract until 2023 and two weeks after Ajax beat Vitesse Arnhem in the Dutch Cup Final.

Eder Militao and Casemiro scored as Real Madrid beat Osasuna 2-0 on Saturday ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League semi-final second leg against Chelsea.

The win leaves Zinedine Zidane’s side two points behind La Liga leaders Atletico Madrid who won 1-0 at Elche.

Boss Zidane rested midfield duo Toni Kroos and Luka Modric ahead of the trip to Stamford Bridge.

He said: “There are loads of games to play.

“Luka and Toni were rested today and that’s very important for us.”
