I L-UCHE ON BRIGHT SIDE

- BY IAN BAKER

WYCOMBE match-winner Uche Ikpeazu is refusing to give up on the most incredible of survivals.

The Chairboys need to win by a minimum of 13-0 at Middlesbrough on Saturday and hope other results go for them.

But Ikpeazu reckons it still can happen because he has triumphed by that scoreline on his Xbox! Ikpeazu, whose wonderful goal saw off Bournemouth (celebrating, above), said: “This is a special club and special things happen.

“The only time I’ve won by 13-0 before is on FIFA – and I think I was just playing against myself. But we don’t give up, we fight right to the end. We don’t give in. Anything’s possible.”

Gareth Ainsworth’s men were expected to be relegated long ago but are refusing to go down easily, demonstrated by this spirited showing against the Cherries. They at least have a good chance of avoiding bottom spot because they now sit level on points with both Sheffield Wednesday and Rotherham.

Bournemouth manager Jonathan Woodgate, already preparing for the play-offs, paid tribute to the bravery of neversay-die Wycombe.

He said: “Gareth has done an incredible job to keep them fighting until the last day.

“That team is an absolute credit to him. But it is nigh on impossible for them to stay up.”
