Billy Mitchell thinks than turning Millwall into a top-six side.

But Rowett revealed he had worked out three months ago what he needs to do this summer to evolve his side into a play-off chasing team and midfielder Mitchell, who only made his debut in February, is in his plans.

The Millwall boss said: “Bill’s been excellent again. I’ve got absolutely no idea what his goal celebration was about.

“If I could understand what goes through Billy’s head, then I’d be a top, top manager. It looked to me at one point like he was swimming on a dry pitch.

“I’ve probably known for about three months what we need for next season. We have an excellent nucleus of really good players, we just need to add one or two.”

Rowett believes the club are close to agreeing a deal with Derby loanee Scott Malone, who paved the way for Jed Wallace to drill in the fifth-minute opener with a perfect crossfield pass and scored the second himself.

Mitchell crashed the ball into the net after a mad scramble from a 52nd-minute corner, and Tom Bradshaw tucked in a fourth.

The only bright spot for

Bristol City in an eighth defeat in 12 games was a first goal for Academy striker Tommy Conway.
