It’s glamping or bus for Johnny

JOHNNY VEGAS: CARRY

C4, 10pm

JOHNNY Vegas is the epitome of the Great British underdog – and you will be rooting for him all the way as he sets about his latest outlandish scheme.

With glamping now on the rise – and no longer just a posh tent in a field – the much-loved comedian and actor wants to set up Britain’s coolest bespoke boutique glampsite.

A little surprising? Johnny and glamorous boutique are not two things you’d expect to be together. But this is not a made-up telly format idea, camper van lover Johnny genuinely has a vision.

He wants to refurbish five old buses into highend accommodation in a glorious field of dreams, featuring an outside cinema, bar and sculpture park.

“It’s a proper ambition to do something independent of TV,” he insists to amused friends and family, who admit it’s not the worst idea he’s ever had.

Helping Johnny to achieve his dream is his long-suffering assistant Bev, who says (through gritted teeth) that he has “challenging behaviour”, always jumping from one idea to the next.

Johnny is not to be deterred. “Why don’t we put a kiln in the bus? I’m gonna decorate one wall just in Lego,” he enthuses. “This is going to be the coolest campsite in the country!”

He just has to find a site. And five buses. And not get distracted.

First, he and Bev set about buying an old Maltese bus online, but it’s not quite the bargain it seems – it’s still in Malta.

Expect adventures and misadventures as Johnny tries to keep calm and carry on.
