Here’s to a Lipa year for Eurovision

No more nil points!

The BBC has signed up Dua Lipa’s management team to select our entry for next year’s Eurovision Song Contest, in a bid to help us actually score something.

And TAP Music has already recruited the cream of the music industry including Dua, Sir Elton John and Spice Girl Mel C to back them in securing a winning entry in Turin in May.

Tap’s Ben Mawson helped Dua secure her chart-topping hits and both Brit and Grammy awards, and the singer says: “I’m happy to lend my manager to the cause... I’ll be cheering them on!”

There were complaints at this year’s contest that the UK was being punished for Brexit by our European neighbours when James Newman’s Embers scored zero points.

However, critics claimed the track didn’t adequately represent the brilliant music the UK is known for, such as Adele and Ed

Sheeran – and Tap’s roster of Dua, Ellie Goulding and Little Mix’s Leigh-anne Pinnock.

Sir Elton is calling for Eurovision to be “one of our nation’s greatest success stories”. He said: “It’s a wonderful opportunity for us to remind the world yet again of the depth and diversity of our talent.” Mel C added: “Isn’t it about time we started showing the rest of Europe what we can do?”

Ben vowed to show off the UK’S “world-class musical talent” at Eurovision by assembling a team of creatives to choose our entry, and called for submissions.

He said: “For years, we’ve witnessed the UK not doing as well as we would’ve liked.

“It’s time to show what we can do and the wonderful musical talent we have – ultimately we can’t blame politics.”
