MOUNT: BLUES HAVE SUMMIT MORE TO SHOW

Top of Prem, but we want world title

- BY JOHN CROSS

MASON MOUNT has admitted he and Chelsea have yet to hit top gear – but are still determined to become world champions.

Mount has not scored this season in 15 games for club and country and claims Chelsea are not playing as well as last year, despite being top of the table.

The England star has no doubt they will improve and find the goals, even though Romelu Lukaku and Timo

Werner are injured.

And they also have an eye on winning the Club World Cup, most likely to be played in February. Mount said: “The games we’ve played have been tough games, but I don’t think we’ve been at our best, yet look where we are.

“We can take a lot of positives from that and look at what we can do better, so it’s a positive for us. There’s more to come, but it’s little adjustments here and there to work on in training and being ready to step up in the games.”

There will be extra pressure on Mount to find his scoring touch with Werner and Lukaku (both below) now missing. He said: “Getting goals from all areas is a big thing for us, a big positive and shows we can be dangerous from different parts of the team. But it’s about time I got on the score sheet for once!

“You go through little stages and I’m not someone who is going to worry massively about it.

“I’m still getting in the right areas, but it’s not falling to me, I’m not getting chances, but, hopefully, when that first one goes in, the floodgates will open.” Chelsea won the

Champions League in

May, won the European Super Cup in August and now want to emulate Liverpool, who won the Club World Cup in 2019, to complete the set. Mount (right) says that winning is a habit.

He added: “When you win the Champions League, you have more opportunities to win more trophies.

“We’re a club that wants to win silverware, we want to win the Champions League, we achieved it last season and now we want to be champions of the world to go with the Super Cup.”

Mount insists he does not feel fatigued, despite boss Thomas Tuchel admitting concerns that some players may be feeling the strain.

Mount said: “I understand the manager has chosen me for some games, then rested me – but I always want to play.”
