Man gunned down through flat front door
A LATE night shooting that left a man in hospital has had people living near the scene of the attack living in fear.
Police are investigating the shooting incident at Greenpark Drive in Antrim town on Sunday night.
A report was received shortly after 10.30pm that a 36-year-old man had sustained a gunshot wound to his chest after a shot was fired through the front door of the property.
The male occupant, who was inside the property, was taken to hospital for his injuries, which are not believed to be life threatening at this stage.
It is understood the man lived on the top floor of a block of flats and those behind the attack broke into the building and ran upstairs before the shot was fired.
SHOCKING
A police cordon remained in place at the scene close to the Dublin Road yesterday as detectives continued their investigations.
Neighbours living in the quiet residential area spoke of their shock following the attack, which they said was out of character.
One woman said: “It’s quiet here most times. This never happened in the last 25 years I have lived here.”
Pam Cameron, South Antrim DUP MLA, who lives close to the scene, described the incident as “shocking”.
She said: “I was stunned to hear this news and horrified that something like this has happened on our doorstep.
“I have spoken to friends who live nearby and they say it’s quite frightening that this has happened in their own locality. Many people have lived there for a long period of time and never encountered anything like this before.”
Alliance MLA John Blair added: “The local community are shocked by what has happened in Antrim and in an established and close-knit neighbourhood. It is worrying that violence using guns has been brought to this area.”
