KDB: TIME TO SAVOUR SUCCESS

- BY HECTOR NUNNS

MANCHESTER CITY star Kevin De Bruyne has told his Belgium team-mates to savour their latest achievement.

The Red Devils sealed their place at the Qatar World Cup and at a fifth consecutive major finals with a 3-1 win over Estonia on Saturday.

Belgium’s ‘Golden Generation’ finished third at the last World Cup and have three quarter-finals to show for their efforts in the last two Euros and Brazil 2014.

Manager Roberto Martinez is under pressure to do better than that next year with such a hugely-talented crop of players at his disposal.

But De Bruyne, whose team head to Wales tomorrow for their final qualifier, insists that it is important to enjoy the special moments as they happen.

It is a third World Cup for De Bruyne, 30, and he said: “The most important thing for Belgium is that we have qualified for Qatar now.

“Perhaps there was a bit less of a party with still the one match to come in Wales, but we had to be very satisfied with what happened.

“It is the third time that I and this current team of players will go to a World Cup, and in the career of a footballer that is a lot.

“We have to make the most of it and enjoy it. Sometimes as a player you play so many matches and you forget a bit to enjoy things at the time.

“At the end of the day, getting to a World Cup is something very special.”

Although the playmaker shone against Estonia (above) and provided yet another assist for his country, De Bruyne has yet to make a goal for City in the Premier League this season.

But he shrugged off any concern, adding: “I got a fourth assist for Belgium this year, so it is no big deal for me.

“We played well against Estonia and deserved to win by a bigger margin, but 3-1 was not too bad.”
