IT DOESN’T LUKE GOOD FOR GLENS ACE MCCULLOUGH

- BY DARREN FULLERTON

GLENTORAN boss Mick Mcdermott faces an anxious wait to learn the full extent of a knee injury suffered by Luke Mccullough at the weekend.

The former Manchester United U23 defender

(above) was stretchered off during Saturday’s 4-0 win over Ballymena United after falling awkwardly near the sidelines.

Mccullough, who suffered three serious knee injuries during his time in English football, will undergo scans when the swelling subsides.

Mcdermott said: “If it’s a long-term injury, that’s part of football unfortunately and we’ll have to deal with it, but we will take care of Luke.

“We’ll let things calm down, assess it with scans and do what we need to do.

“Luke has been brilliant since he arrived here and we’ll do whatever we need to do to take care of him.”

Jay Donnelly bagged a brace while Conor Mcmenamin and Ben Cushnie were also on target against Ballymena as the Glens climbed up to fourth.

Leaders Cliftonville remain five points clear of Larne at the summit thanks to a 4-2 win at Warrenpoint, with Ryan Curran bagging a brace for the Reds.

Larne beat Glenavon 3-2 at Inver Park with goals from Jeff Hughes, Davy Mcdaid and Ben Doherty, while Coleraine climbed above Linfield with a 2-0 win over Dungannon Swifts.

Matthew Shevlin’s 13th goal of the season helped make it 14 games without defeat in all competitions for the Bannsiders. WEEKEND’S RESULTS:

Coleraine 2 Dungannon 0 Crusaders 2 Linfield 1

Glentoran 4 Ballymena United 0 Larne 3 Glenavon 2

Portadown 2 Carrick Rangers 2 Warrenpoint 2 Cliftonville 4
