BROOM’S SWEEP DREAMS

Plymouth travel to the top of the table on Ryan express

- BY LINDSAY SUTTON

RYAN BROOM’S sensational strike took Plymouth top – and the proud Pilgrim claimed: “The gaffer told me that TWO goalkeepers couldn’t have kept it out.”

Broom’s 25-yard belter screamed past keeper Toby Savin to kill off any hopes of an Accrington fightback.

“It’s probably the best goal of my career - the perfect strike,” he said.

“It was a great time to score because Accrington were battling to get back in the game after pulling a goal back. We knew they would fight back in the second half after going two down, but we stuck to our game plan and my goal came at the perfect time.” The 25-year-old Welshman said Argyle’s aim now is to stay top of the pile. “To get to the top of the table is one thing, to stay there has to be our aim,” he said. “It was a brilliant result, especially at a tough place like Accrington. We’re top of the league but we won’t get carried away.”

Boss Ryan Lowe (above) said confidence in the camp is growing.

“This was our best away performance,” he said. “There was a bubbly atmosphere on the coach travelling to Accrington and now we want to take that atmosphere back home.”

Accrington fell behind to an own goal from Ethan Hamilton, who was trying to cut out a cross to Joe Edwards. Just as tough on them was Plymouth’s second strike a minute before the break – courtesy of Jordan Houghton, but made by Broom.

Stanley pulled one back through Tommy Leigh. Then came Broom’s brush with glory as the on-loan midfielder scored his cracker, from a Jordon Garrick lay-off.

Broom then helped

Ryan Hardie (right) get back on the goal trail with his 11th of the season.

Accy manager

John Coleman moaned: “We matched them in every department except putting the ball away. We had

18 shots on goal to their nine, but they had eight on target to our two.”
