We must come together and make it a better game for ALL

-

THIS has been a difficult time for the game in England and it’s incredibly sad to hear some of the stories that have been coming out.

The issues raised are so important and the work that has to be done is absolutely vital for the future health of our game.

The experiences of so many people must be listened to and then it is about action from all of us as human beings to make sure we treat each other with the respect we all deserve.

Now it is down to all of us to make the changes required, and something we have been working on in the England dressing rooms and will continue to work on.

We are lucky to have a diverse group of people working in our team environment, but on its own that is not enough. We take the time to listen and talk to each other, to learn from each other about the different backgrounds we come from.

There is absolutely a need for stronger education in this area and some classroom time will help, but being interested in your team-mate and hearing their stories is the best education I feel I’ve had in my career.

I’ve learned so much about different cultures, religions and more from speaking to guys who have come through the dressing room while I’ve been here.

To get through something like this, we need to evolve as human beings and think a little more clearly about how we treat each other.

Dressing rooms can be amazing places but only when everybody feels welcome and are able to be themselves. This is a hugely important moment for the game and we cannot waste it.

Now is the time for us to come together in the game and make it an even better game for all.
