TAMZIN Outhwaite says landing a role in Death in Paradise was a dream come true – and filming it was as idyllic as she had hoped.

The 51-year-old former Eastenders star will appear in series 11 of the BBC1 Caribbean crime drama early next year as Holly Faircroft, a golf club owner with a “dark side”.

Tamzin said: “Over the years I’ve always wanted to do Death in Paradise.

“As an actor, it’s one of those things you want to tick off so it’s always been a bucket list job for me.

“I can’t reveal too much about the character, but she does unsavoury things. She is a good mum and I don’t think she’s a bad human, but she’s got frustrated and bored in her marriage and it’s led her to doing bad things.

“I always find playing characters with a dark side more interesting. Nobody when they get to my age has no past at all, so it is nice to play a flawed character.”

Waterloo Road actor Jason Done joins the show as Holly’s husband. Ralf Little continues in the lead role of DI Neville Parker. Tamzin told how she got on well with her cast mates during her 10 days of filming in Guadeloupe.

She said: “Filming it in the Caribbean was actually like being in paradise. It was beautiful.

“Myself and the actors who played my family members all just gelled instantly. We had a really great time.” Death in

Paradise is set on the fictional island of Saint Marie and has run since 2011.

Ralf took over as DI Parker from Kris Marshall at the end of series nine.

Fans were recently delighted when it was announced that there would be a 90-minute Christmas special hitting screens this month, concluding the drama’s 10th anniversary celebrations.

Danny John-jules will be returning as charismatic officer Dwayne Myers alongside guest stars Mathew Baynton, Juliet Stevenson and Jocelyn Jee Esien.

Tamzin recently played hair salon owner Barbara Watson in 60s BBC drama Ridley Road. It tells the story of the 62 Group, anti-fascists who fought the neo-nazi movement in London.

Tamzin said: “It was a bit of a departure from what I normally do. I usually do more contemporary stuff when it comes to telly.

“Doing something set in the 1960s which reminded me of my mum was just wonderful. The clothing reminded me of all the pictures of my mum and nan years ago.”

She has also opened up about her struggles with the menopause, revealing she was “overwhelmed” and suffering from headaches.

The actor told how she cut out dairy, meat and alcohol and is taking HRT.

Tamzin will appear in Death in Paradise series 11. Series one to 10 are available on iplayer.
