WHAT: Travelodge London Covent Garden, rooms from £32, with Superrooms approx £10 or £15 more, travelodge.co.uk WHERE: In the heart of the West End on Drury Lane, this is the perfect place to stay to explore the capital if you’re on a budget.

A fairly nondescript white building, it makes up for this in its fabulous location, a few minutes’ walk from Covent Garden. Explore the famous market and shop ‘til you drop in trendy boutiques.

I was in town to see Killing Eve star Jodie Comer make her West End debut in one-woman play Prima Facie at the Harold Pinter Theatre. Known for her role as a trained assassin, she certainly killed it on stage.

EXPERIENCE: I stayed in a Superroom double, which comes with a few notable extras to standard ones including a kingsize Travelodge Dreamer bed.

Decorated in a stylish blue and taupe with herringbone touches, big pluses were the sockets and USB ports either side of the bed, a hair dryer next to a full length mirror, and an iron and ironing board. You get a larger desk and a swivel chair with these rooms and an armchair.

I didn’t have time to use the Lavazza coffee pod machine, but I wolfed down the complimentary Kitkats needing a quick sugar hit having walked there from Euston station (about 30 minutes).

Breakfast in the big downstairs restaurant was great value, at just £9.95 and two children under 15 eat free with a paying adult. A good quality full English buffet was available as well as fruit, cereal, croissants and toast.

Reception staff were friendly and helpful, printing out a map of the local area.

QUIBBLES: Soap dispensers attached to the walls let down the otherwise stylish bathroom. VERDICT: Great location and worth paying that bit more for the extras with the Superroom. 9/10
