I would like to send my heartfelt condolences to Corinne Fievet who wrote (May 23) about losing her mum so sadly during the pandemic, and send my love to her and her father and family in France.

Don’t worry about traditional make-up, Siobhan. Embrace the full Leigh Bowery.

Ed: Ha! Thanks, Jonathan. Trendsetter Leigh sadly died in the 90s, but his slug-like eyebrows live on in teenage girls in the 2020s!

Much as I admire The Queen for her hard work and dedication to her duties, I am not a royalist which makes my experience slightly odd.

In the early 1990s, I was driving from Seal to Sevenoaks in Kent on the A25. As I was approaching a small lay-by, a police motorcyclist waved me in.

I got out to see what was happening, then two more police motorcyclists came past, followed by a large black limo flying a small flag.

Looking out of the window was the Queen smiling and waving at me, then the Duke of Edinburgh’s head appeared and he also smiled and waved.

So what did this closet republican do? I smiled, waved enthusiastically, feeling like a bit of an idiot, but very pleased it happened.

I wonder if HRH remembers me?

Anthony Sykes, Tunbridge Wells, Kent

Ed: How could she forget, Anthony!

On the subject of sandwiches (May 25), my son Robert says we don’t make sandwiches, we “build them”. We start off with ham, mayo, cheese, then tomato and finish off with lettuce, and more mayo and maybe crisps as well.

It ends up being a meal in itself. You should try it! Anne Kidman, by email

Ed: That sounds like a club sandwich to me, Anne, which I did try once in a hotel. But I forgot to remove the cocktail sticks holding it together and almost pierced my tongue!

What a pleasure to read about my postbox topper in the paper. Unfortunately, your reader got the details wrong. I am Josie Ruth Salter and I live in Pennant, Ceredigion, and the postbox topper was crocheted not knitted.

Ed: Apart from that, our article was perfect! Ha, ha! Glad to correct the mistakes.
