of fans with fake tickets”, while social media footage has emerged of large numbers of locals being allowed in without tickets.

Defender Robertson revealed he had friends who were turned away with “fake” tickets – even though they were supplied by Liverpool.

Asked about his family getting caught up, he said: “Luckily, everyone is fine. I don’t know whether any fans got hurt, so we will find that out. But fingers crossed, everybody is OK.

“People who have got legitimate tickets were being told they were fake, which happened to one of my mates – and I can assure you it wasn’t a fake ticket. So the French police have just panicked.

“It shouldn’t really happen, UEFA should have been better organised.”

UEFA have promised to gather information into what happened as they talk to the police and French authorities.

Liverpool want a full investigation and their fans exonerated from any blame for the scenes outside the stadium.

Supporters’ group Spirit of Shankly described the scenes as “totally shambolic and extremely dangerous”, while Merseyside police officers, working as observers and advisors, said the scenes were the “worst they had ever worked or experienced”.

The fans group said: “The failure rests with UEFA, the French authorities and police.

“The consequence of such incompetence was the not unusual heavyhanded response from the police and their indiscriminate use of tear gas and pepper spray.”

Culture Secretary Nadine Dorries (above) said: “I urge UEFA to launch a formal investigation into what went wrong.”
