AM I TOO OLD TO FIND LOVE AGAIN?

- Dear Coleen

I’m a man aged 75 and my wife died a couple of years ago. I worked until fairly recently, but now I feel as if I want to meet a partner to share the rest of my life with.

The only things that are holding me back are where to start and, secondly, am I too old to be dating and will I just make a fool of myself?

I’m fit, active, interested in lots of things and love going to restaurants and travelling.

I feel I still have a lot to give and would love your opinion.

Coleen says

You sound like a catch to me! Let’s deal with your second worry first. No, I don’t believe you’re ever too old if it’s what you want. I love that you’re still embracing life and making plans for your future.

It’s this attitude that will keep you young at heart and engaged with people and the world around you. In terms of meeting other people, there are plenty of social groups out there such as meetup.com, where you’ll find local groups covering lots of different interests. There’s also University of the Third Age (visit u3a.org.uk) for semi-retired and retired people.

These types of groups are great for meeting new friends and you might even connect with someone special over a shared interest.

You could also go down the dating site route, which isn’t as scary as it sounds – it’s about finding the right site for you, so do some research.

Sites that cater for senior daters include Silversingles, eharmony and Match.

I met lots of interesting people on a dating app, and it gave me the confidence to feel OK about dating again after my divorce.
