MY PET PEEVES

-

There were so many pet peeves in my inbox, we could start an entire paper called The Daily Peeve. I also remembered another one of mine – being asked to review even the most minor service. I was drinking black coffee in Mcdonald’s waiting for Bozza to be deshedded at Pets At Home, when a young server asked how my drink was and if I could review his performance via a QR code on the table. I waved my cup at him and said: “Hot and wet.” The coffee that is, not him.

Reader Francis Harvey in Bristol says so many things annoy him it’s hard to narrow them down, and would add more except one of his pet peeves is…

1. People disregarding basic clear instructions.

2. Theatre or cinemagoers prolongedly shaking their legs or twirling ankles.

3. High-pitched ambulance sirens on empty roads or green lights.

4. Money-grubbing pavement pests such as chuggers.

5. Social media users who block people posting politely dissenting comments.

While I get the feeling Daphne and Joe O’sullivan in East Wittering, West Sussex, have suffered some of their pet peeves personally.

1. Car parks with broken ticket machines which take a sneaky snap of your car and charge you £100.

2. Dodgy salesmen that sell you foam insulation and then flog your details to firms that charge to take it out.

3. Brochures of gadgets that don’t work, like automatic nail clippers or magnetic arthritis bracelets.

4. Men who walk along having loud conversations on earphones. Do they think they’re James Bond?

5. TV car adverts showing no traffic on the road or a model not available in the UK.

And concise but firm, Jean White of Eastbourne is a stickler for rules.

1. People who drop their Ts when speaking, like par(t)y.

2. Friends who promise to keep secrets then tell others.

3. Shoplifters.

4. Vandals who pull flower heads off in parks.

5. Litterbugs who don’t use the bin.
