Voters won’t fall for Tory attacks

- Duncan Travers, Wolverhampton

AS expected, the right-wing press is attempting to distract voters from the appalling state the Tories have got Britain into.

Their attack on Angela Rayner over questions about a few hundred pounds of tax from selling her home is pathetic when compared to the industrial scale tax avoidance of fatcat Tories.

Clever accountants set up non-dom status, shell companies and overseas accounts to shift billions from HMRC, and it is good Rachel Reeves will go after them.

The idea Labour should give GMB money back because of sexism and bullying allegations in the union is farcical. Accusations need to be investigated, but this does not compare to the millions the Tories have taken from racist Frank Hester, newly ennobled dictator’s mate Mohamed Mansour and Russian oligarchs.

Hopefully, voters won’t fall for Tory hypocritical nonsense again and we can get a government that cares for everyone, not just the rich.

Brett Grainger, Rugeley, Staffs

The desperate Tories trying to smear Angela Rayner is a bit rich when you consider their record. Hardly a week goes by without a report of sleaze or a money scandal. They accept millions in return for misusing the so-called honours system and the PM’S own wife wasn’t paying all of the UK tax on her vast wealth.

They change the non-dom tax status but leave enough loopholes so their rich backers are still able to evade paying up. Liz Truss

crashed our economy so how can anyone with a conscience pocket millions and tell us left-wing policies are the cause of anything wrong with the world?

The Tories are desperate and we can expect more of their dirty tricks as they try to cling on by their fingertips.

John Sedgwick, Tamworth, Staffs

What an absolute joke the Tories are, trying to smear Angela Rayner to deflect from their 14-year disastrous record in office.

There has been more scandal and sleaze under the Tories.

These are supposed to be leaders setting an example and should look at their own track record.

Dave Mellor, Warrington

If, as Lord Ashcroft says, Angela Rayner has broken the rules then quite rightly she should be brought to account. But let’s not begin and end the investigation just with her.

We should take another closer look at Tory MPS who have made a hobby out of flipping properties to their financial advantage.

And can someone remind me how much tax the noble Lord

avoided by claiming non-dom status for all those years?

Stuart Magrath, Wigan

Tory James Daly is a pathetic politician trying to smear Angela Rayner over alleged rule breaking by moaning to Manchester police.

With an election near they are desperate – but she is more than capable of taking on Tory gossip gas bags who should get their own house in order first.

Reg Barrett, Southminster, Essex

I wonder who the Tories will condemn after Angela Rayner?

I can imagine some of them racking their brains at night for their next victim to rip apart.

Jan Hencher-serafi

Studley, Warwickshire

Yet more last-minute attempts by the Tories to try to claw back some votes. Do they really think we are that stupid?

Leave Angela Rayner alone. I hope this investigation gets wrapped up as soon as possible and we can get back to the important issues like employment and energy prices.
