Blues ace says pressure is no issue.. it is all part of being a player at Windsor

- BY STEVEN CRAWFORD

DANIEL FINLAYSON says the pressure as we build towards an enthralling end to the Irish Premiership season is all part and parcel of playing for Linfield.

The Blues face a crucial couple of weeks with three league games left as they slug it out with Larne for the Gibson Cup before facing Cliftonville in an Irish Cup showdown to wrap up what could be a very memorable season.

The games continue to come thick and fast with Coleraine up next this evening with Finlayson insisting they have to embrace the challenge.

“It’s a cup final every time you play for Linfield,” said the defender. “We’ve put ourselves into a great position going into the last three games, we just need to stick together and get the job done. “One game at a time is what is being drummed into us, we can’t focus on what’s going to happen in three games time. The next game is against Coleraine and it’s all about winning it and staying in the title race.

“That’s what happens when you’re at a big club, when you’re successful and in every competition you’re going to be playing every few days at this stage of the season.

“We want to be playing as much as this because it means there’s still plenty to play for.

“We have a fit squad and a lot of depth so we know we can use players when we have to.

“As I said this is where we want to be at this stage of the season. You want to be going into the split pushing for the league and other trophies so we’re not complaining at all.”

Finlayson provided the vital moment for the

Blues in their dramatic victory over Crusaders on Friday night, heading home the winner in the 93rd minute to keep their title hopes alive. The 23-yearold said it is drummed into them keep believing no matter what. “You just have to keep believing,” he said. “We’re confident we have players up top and in the middle of the pitch who can get us goals, so you always have to believe.

“The way we play, it comes from the gaffer and the staff. We don’t give up until the end, and that’s what we did. The look of our season has changed going into the last three games now, and that result has certainly given us a lift. “I don’t really remember too much about the goal. I was unlucky with a few at the back post during the game, I just saw the ball coming in, I tried to get myself in a good position and get it on target. Thankfully it ricocheted into the net.”
